Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

^9 (A)“When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. ¹⁰ And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord your God.

^11 (B)“You shall not steal; ^(C)you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another. ^12 (D)You shall not swear by my name falsely, and so ^(E)profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.

^13 (F)“You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. ^(G)The wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you all night until the morning. ^14 (H)You shall not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall ^(I)fear your God: I am the Lord.

^15 (J)“You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. ^16 (K)You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not ^(L)stand up against the life^[a] of your neighbor: I am the Lord.

^17 (M)“You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but ^(N)you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you ^(O)incur sin because of him. ^18 (P)You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but ^(Q)you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

¹⁹ Beloved, ^(A)never avenge yourselves, but leave it^[a] to the wrath of God, for it is written, ^(B)“Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” ²⁰ To the contrary, ^(C)“if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” ²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

⁷ For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— ⁸ but ^(A)God shows his love for us in that ^(B)while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Anger

^21 (A)“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ^(B)‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable ^(C)to judgment.’ ²² But I say to you that ^(D)everyone who is angry with his brother^[a] will be liable ^(E)to judgment; whoever insults^[b] his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to ^(F)the hell^[c] of fire. ^23 (G)So if ^(H)you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, ²⁴ leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. ^25 (I)Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison.

^15 (A)Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that ^(B)no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

²⁹ But he, ^(A)desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” ³⁰ Jesus replied, “A man ^(B)was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. ³¹ Now by chance a ^(C)priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. ³² So likewise ^(D)a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. ³³ But a ^(E)Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. ³⁴ He went to him and ^(F)bound up his wounds, pouring on ^(G)oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. ³⁵ And the next day he took out two ^(H)denarii^[a] and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ ³⁶ Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” ³⁷ He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

The Sin of Partiality

2 My brothers,^{[a] (A)}show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, ^(B)the Lord of glory. ² For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, ³ and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” ^(C)while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” ⁴ have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become ^(D)judges with evil thoughts?

²⁶ for in Christ Jesus ^(A)you are all sons of God, through faith. ²⁷ For as many of you as ^(B)were baptized ^(C)into Christ have ^(D)put on Christ. ^28 (E)There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave^[a] nor free, ^(F)there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
